5 Year Anniverary
This year, Kenny and I are celebrating our 5 year anniversary. Our original plan for our anniversary was to travel to Japan and make a stop in the Philippines. Besides Hawaii, we I thought our 5 year mark would be a great reason for Kenny to experience the Philippines for the first time. But along with a lot of other plans this year, this trip was cancelled due to the pandemic. Instead we decided to plan a little staycation to getaway from our daily routines and to celebrate. We stayed at the Avenue of the Arts Hotel in Costa Mesa and then drove down to San Diego during the day. We treated ourselves by staying at the Executive Suite of the hotel and it felt so luxurious. We almost felt like it was too fancy for us but it was such a fun and an amazing experience.
For our anniversary gift, we had planned to get matching couple rings. Now for many couples, the idea of couple rings is so cheesy or can be taboo. I personally always wanted to get them with Kenny but I didn’t want to get it so early in our relationship so neither of us would feel so pressured to the commitment of a ring. When we talked about it before, Kenny thought it was silly. For one, he doesn’t wear rings or any accessories at all. So that would definitely be a change for him.
As we surpassed the 3-4 year mark, I began to think of it more and Kenny started opening up to the idea of it. This year Kenny and I had many conversations on what we planned for our future and one day he said, “Of you really want the rings, we can get them.”
I wanted our rings to be significant but also practical. We didn’t want something too expensive or too flashy as we’re both simple people. I always dreamed of having the original Tiffany’s 1837 ring in sterling silver. But Kenny thought it was a bit too plain. I was understanding. Maybe it be too girly for him? He browsed in the website and found the Tiffany’s 1837 ring in Titanium. When I first saw it, I thought it was only a males ring but there was a photo of a woman wearing it too. And I was so shocked on how cute and feminine on her. I loved the narrow band and that the black color made it look sleek all while being a great statement jewelry piece. I was sold. We purchased our rings from the Tiffany’s store in Pasadena and after a few trips of browsing and consulting, we left with two little blue boxes at the end of August.
I did my own research on titanium metal and found some fun facts:
a light weight metal and much more durable metal than silver
affordable compared to other gold rings
water resistant and hypoallergenic
We waited until our actual anniversary, September 12, to wear them. I’m so grateful that Kenny and I waited until our 5 year mark to get the couple rings. The whole process was so much fun because we chose it together. It symbolizes our journey together and our promise to continue to grow together with patience and love.
