Celebrating Love
I felt really bad because days leading up to Valentine’s Day I kept asking Kenny, “So what are we doing for Valentines Day?” and “Where are you taking me on a date?” To be completely honest, I didn’t really mean it. Nor did I really care.
My dad’s birthday is on Valentine’s Day. Growing up we would go out to celebrate his special day. Of course I had those cheesy Valentine exchanges at school but for the most part, I never had a “Valentines Date”.
Now that I’m older, I care more about the love, quality time and the emotional connection I have with my significant other. Kenny and I don’t really buy each other fancy gifts or go on expensive dates. The time that we spend together and the things we do are so simple yet mean so much.
After a long day of school and work, Kenny and I met at night to have dinner. We struggled for a while to figure out what we wanted to eat. We had nothing truly planned. We ended up ordering Buffalo Wild Wings to-go and watching Friends, and talking the rest of the night. Simple bonding and food. Now that’s what I call a date.
So cheers to celebrating love everyday in all the simple ways.
Oh, and Happy Birthday Dad.
